What's different with a debug version...

New to NetBurner and playing with Tod's Ajax 2 example application from here

I notice that if I add the debugger lines (InitializeNetworkGDB_and_Wait()...which are absent in the source perhaps for this very reason) and try and run the application with no breakpoints set in debug then it runs, and the debugger connects but it locks up as soon as you access a webpage.
What is the likely cause of this and what ways around it might there be ?
