The PINK units are upgradable through the network interface, and you are correct about the windows 7 issue - windows 7 rejects an ip address of 0.0.0.1.

That would be a good feature to add, but currently it is only displayed on the web page.

The telnet session is a debugging tool. From the output you provided:
